Alex Rocca

The power of life and the constant search for artistic freedom are the fuel for Alex Rocca. With strong inspiration in cinematography, modernist architecture and landscaping, Alex develops his art in a solitary, contemplative and meditative way. The entire creative process, from inspiration, drawing and conceptual evolution, is the result of his training in cinema, scenography and interior design. Amidst a rich poetics with abundant meanings, the textile artist from Curitiba handcrafts unique tapestries made with natural raw materials, threads and fibers such as wool and sisal. Sensory and three-dimensional, his pieces instigate the eye due to the aesthetic balance of shapes and patterns and stimulate touch through different volumes and textures. It proposes pure authorial design by freely exploring colors, the play of light and shadows, organic elements and geometric lines. With attention to processes and techniques, it incorporates biomimicry to value the ancestral, fluid and sustainable forms of nature. Furthermore, he applies concepts of urban morphology, attributing life and movement to his drawings. Through his creative insights, the result of observation of the world and himself, he allows himself to create contemporary, exploratory, vibrant, intuitive and provocative works. Much more than decorative art, his tapestries overflow layers of affective memories, mirrors of the soul itself, in an eternal transmute.
